On Thursday, September 10, Gunnar will march into Northfield, Minnesota, completing the 1,000-mile endeavor that is A Soldier’s March for Peace.
Here are the details of the homecoming celebrations in and near Northfield. Gunnar and Dina would love to see you at any of these events!
9/10, Thursday - Northfield: 5pm
Everyone who would like to march the final mile with Gunnar is invited to meet at the Northfield High School parking lot at 1400 Division Street S. and walk with him to Bridge Square in the center of Northfield. There will be a reception in Bridge Square at 6:00pm. It is the Defeat of Jesse James Days “Townie Night,” so there will be plenty of food and family-friendly activities on Bridge Square and nearby.
9/11, Friday - Cannon Falls: 8am
Gunnar and Dina will be at Cannon Falls Elementary School to meet with all the students. The entire Cannon Falls student body (pre-school through 12th graders) will gather to hear Gunnar and Dina’s final presentation (the one they have given to so many YMCA kids over the past 10 weeks) and then write letters for kids in Iraq and Afghanistan. They will also make a human tunnel from the elementary school to the high school for Gunnar to walk through, all wearing red, white and blue and holding flags. KARE-11 TV will be covering the appearance.
9/12, Saturday - Northfield: 4:30pm
Gunnar will speak near Bridge Square, at the site of the bank raid reenactment. The VFW and American Legion Honor Guard will be holding the flags to honor Gunnar as he makes a short speech and thanks all who supported A Soldier’s March for Peace. The VFW will be presenting a donation at that time, and any other local businesses that wish to make a public donation are invited to do so then as well.
9/13, Sunday - Northfield: 2:00 pm
Gunnar will walk in a position of honor in the Defeat of Jesse James Days grand parade.
