For the month of December, War Kids Relief is partnering with NTI Upstream, publishers of the new book Coppola: A
Pediatric Surgeon in Iraq, where 10% of online book sales will be donated to War Kids Relief’s Helmand Children’s Medical Fund…a new life-saving WKR project that will provide much needed medical aid to children living in one of Afghanistan’s largest IDP camps.
Coppola: A Pediatric Surgeon in Iraq is the fierce, true-life account of Dr. Chris Coppola’s two deployments in Iraq as an Air Force pediatric surgeon. Twice stationed at Balad Air Base, Dr. Coppola works feverishly to save the lives of soldiers and civilians, and reveal the untold story of the most innocent victims of war–the children. A fabulous read that makes a wonderful holiday gift.

What is the Helmand Children’s Medical Fund (HCMF)?
In the U.S. led effort to hunt down Taliban, many innocent civilians of Helmand Province, Afghanistan have lost their homes due to bombing and violence. Many have been injured, killed and have lost limbs as a part of the collateral damage. With nothing left, thousands of families have fled Helmand and are currently living in an IDP camp on the outskirts of Kabul…a place with no running water, open sewage, filth and despair. The children living in this camp are at the greatest risk due to lack of health services and, currently, of the over 2,000+ children there, over 70% have pneumonia.
CCC/War Kids Relief has formed a partnership with the top three children’s hospitals in Kabul to create the Helmand Children’s Medical Fund, where for one month only they will provide medical assistance at greatly reduced fees to as many of the most critical IDP children as possible. Because of this amazing opportunity, as little as $30 may save the life of a child suffering from war.
