The Soldier’s March for Peace walk has officially concluded, and as a result, we have just launched our first exciting new War Kids Relief program: The U.S./Afghan Junior Investor Program.
Partnership for the Education of Children in Afghanistan (P.E.C.A.), CCC’s Afghan nonprofit partner that builds schools in rural Afghanistan, has developed an after-school vocational training program for the many Afghan students with no college prospects…students, who with no other economic opportunities, may otherwise fall into the hand of Taliban control. From 9th -12th grade, these students will be trained as junior entrepreneurs able to help economically rebuild their own communities, provide jobs and co-invest a portion of revenues back in to the school for long-term sustainability. Research has proven that the economic strength of a village is the most effective way for local Afghans to resist Taliban extremism from taking control of their communities.
Meanwhile, CCC is implementing a middle and high school curriculum where American students will study Afghan culture while sponsoring the vocational training of these Afghan students at the same time. The goal is to help them create the solution–together!
The Pilot:
Beginning this fall, students in two Cannon Falls, MN classes will be Students will be able to follow the course of their investment in the Afghan students for up to four years and see exactly how their financial contribution creates a ripple effect in the economic development of an Afghan community. It will also help them understand how their investment will actually prevent insurgencies like the Taliban from controlling communities.
